Could have mentioned how this would help in extracting the best possible results from kit lens. Setting the Av to the kit lens sweet spot typically f8 and avoiding the extremes of the zoom range can yield results on a par with much more expensive kit.

I agree with 'Srewdrivers' comment that Jon missed out on mentioning DOF which is very important. I shoot Sports and Weddings in Aperture Priority 9 times out of 10. I also use fast lenses f2.8, f1.4 so to shoot with high speeds and little DOF. When in AV Mode (Aperture Priority)and in low light you must keep your eye on your Shutter Speed. www.mikezite.co.uk
