Thanks for this. Helped me get some good shots of some designer radiators for a website i'm helping with. Bit short of money so this was much appreciated.

Had to play around with the gun a bit as I have the sb900 but found that it was a little simpler to do with the sb900, as it has a remote switch in the back. Excellent.

As I understand it the Commander unit "talks" to the slave units using flashes (or more correctly "pre-flashes") it is these that you will see. Once it gets to the actual flash and the lens opening the commander unit does not flash.

About “pop up flash still fires” I find out that if on my D80 I set up: BUILT-IN FLASH > COMMANDER MODE > BUIT-IN FLASH > MODE value to “ – “ (double minus sign) , then built-in flash even when fires doesn’t effect picture. (must be some delay) to make sure, just switch off your external flash without changing settings and try to take picture. ..ye ye, I was surprised too.. :)

"cannot stop the pop up flash on the camera firing" - I have same setup and although not stopping the flash from firing, I have a small piece of dark grey filter paper attached to the flash to stop any effect on the subject - works for me.
