Popping colour in Photoshop

Jon Adams, editor of Digital Photo, reveals how to turn your image black & white and leave just a few small areas in full colour. This is known as colour popping and is an effective way of drawing the viewer's attention to the key focal points in the frame. This tutorial is also compatible with Photoshop Elements.

Great video, really easy to follow. I've always loved the technique, but never tried it myself. I managed to follow the steps, even though I was using CS3, and it worked brilliantly. Thanks.

I was very impressed with the video and used it to produce an image of a couple's wedding rings and hands in B/W, with just the rings in colour. It was a very very popular images from the wedding. It can be seen in my gallery as "As a Token of my Love" and I would welcome comments from others who have tried this - thanks

A group of us are doing a 365 project (on Flikr) and have a set subject every 2-3 weeks. Colour Popping is the technique in a couple of weeks time and I hd no idea how to do it. This tutorial was excellent and I had a great success first time using Elements 5. Thank you for such clear and understandable instructions.

I took some hsots at a Poetry Reading in a very cramped courtyard. I couldn't avoid a cluttered background or get a clean shot. I took the advice on the video and used it to seoarate the subject from the background to make her more distinct and give her a sense of isolation and detachment from her surroundings. I think it worked to some extent (comments welcome). The Image is THE READER in my gallery
