Hello James!

It's a very nice video. I want to share one tip: I've worked in some portraits with low light and also it's important to consider metering mode. If we use matrix, the exposimeter will detect very low light conditions and we'll be forced to use high ISO. But if we use spot metering or center weighted, and we focus on the face for example, we can "save us" to use high ISO speed. But may be this issue can be treated in another video. =)

I wasn't worried about noise in this shot because I intended to have a grainy image like one shot with a high ISO film. I reduced the colour noise in Lightroom to reduce the colour specs in the image. The thing about noise/grain is that you can use it as part of the overall aesthetic of your shots. You just have to be picky about which ones to use it with because it doesn't work with all subjects and situations.

Thanks for your comments. We have to keep videos short so some information has to be left out, but we keep the most important points. This video accompanies DSLR skills in the June issue of Practical Photography so there's loads more information in the magazine. There's also a feature about lightmeters so you might learn more about exposure from this. 

The lens we were using was a Canon 17 - 85mm f/4-5.6.
