The Holiday Photographer of the Year competition has five adult (21 and over) categories and youth (under 21) categories. Both the adult and youth categories have the same themes. These are:
1. Wildlife
2. The city
3. Landscape
4. People
5. Famous places
To qualify as a youth you must be aged 20 or under on 31 May 2008. The permission of a parent/guardian is required for those under the age of 18.
A total of 2 images per category are allowed for each entrant. You must not enter the same image into different categories but we reserve the right to move an image into a different category if we deem it necessary.
The closing date of the competition is 31 May 2008.
Entries must be submitted digitally (scans from film are acceptable) and must be uploaded to the special Holiday Photographer of the Year galleries within the Photo answers website. You must sign-up to the site and complete the necessary information before uploading your image/s. We reserve the right to delete the low resolution digital files at the end of the competition.
Images can be submitted as colour or black & white in all categories and the format of the image is entirely at the discretion of the photographer.
All images should be uploaded as JPEGs and we recommend that you keep your images to a maximum of 600 pixels at their longest point and around 250KB in size. Once you have uploaded an entry you cannot delete or change it.
You must be able to produce a higher resolution image on request if your image is shortlisted for the final judging stage. You will be contacted by e-mail and given 10 days to supply a file and print (minimum size 6x4) at the highest resolution you can. Failure to do so will result in the image being rejected from the shortlist. Please ensure that you keep copies of submitted images.
When uploading, we will request information about the image. The information given here will have no bearing on the judging process.
Some digital manipulation is allowed but it must not be to the extent that it affects the original integrity of the taken photo. Therefore, the combining of more than one image or the wholesale alteration of a scene is not permitted. If we suspect an image has gone beyond these bounds we reserve the right to disqualify it without correspondence and our decision is final.
The overall winner will be the person whose image is selected as the best by the judging panel from all the entries. The prizes are as stated and cannot be exchanged. You must be available to take your prizes on the dates stated. The overall winner will be selected from one of the category winners. This means that in one category the prize will be upgraded to the trip to Antarctica so category prizes will only be awarded to four runners-up.
