Footage shot through a Lensbaby was used for sequences in an award-winning new film directed by Julian Schnabel, with cinematography by Janusz Kaminski.
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly tells the true story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, the lively and sophisticated editor of French Elle, who suffered a massive stroke resulting in his near-complete paralysis.
The film is based on a memoir Bauby later authored by blinking his left eyelid to represent each letter of each word to a transcriber.
In addition to winning the Golden Globe for Best Director, the film has received the Boston Film Critics’ and Los Angeles Film Critics’ Awards for Best Cinematography and has been nominated for many more directing and cinematography honours, including Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Cinematography.
