Is photography a science or art? If your answer is ‘who cares?’ then this probably isn’t the book for you. If you raised your eyebrows, however, you could do worse than hunker down with this rather quizzical book. Essentially, The genius of photography tries to answer the question, ‘what makes a great photo?’ It relies mostly on well-known photos to make its point (though what that point is, is up for debate) and errs a little too much on the arty side of things for this reviewer’s taste. Confusing.

This fails to really show Photography and it is more a historical narative. Many of the photographs are not shown to their full potential. A much better buy is the 'Tate Britain's' How we are Photographing Britain which is cheaper and really does show some stunning photography from the past and present.
