The Tamrac Pro 8 design is quite conservative, with a fairly traditional, functional look about it. The build quality of the Tamrac Pro 8 is to a good standard and while there’s a decent level of padding around the bag, there are a couple of weak points – notably at the corners where the padding meets. This is the only bag in the test to feature some (small) feet on the base to offer a little more protection. Apart from that, there are no extra goodies like a waterproof cover.
The main compartment is initially laid out so as to allow you to place your D-SLR horizontally in the bag, and though we managed to get our test gear in like this, there’s quite a bit of wasted space and it’s not the most efficient solution – gear is tucked underneath other pieces of kit, for instance. Though the padding can be moved around to suit the specific kit you have, the padding design doesn’t really lend itself to allow you to place your camera facing downwards with a lens attached, which would free up a bit more space. There are two fairly large internal pockets on the top flap, while on the outside there are three spacious pockets. There are four Fastex buckles and a zip to keep the top flap fastened down, while there’s a generous padded, non-slip shoulder strap that’s very comfortable.
