The Micro Sync Remote Trigger connects your camera to studio flash via a radio signal. The unit is in two parts, a hotshoe mounted transmitter and a receiver that plugs into the sync socket on your strobe. At just 30g the transmitter is the smallest on the market, according to Tamrac, and a choice of four channels means the unit can be used in areas where other nearby photographers are using them.
The signal is strong enough to pick up even from separate rooms, and the unit works extremely effectively. It’s reasonably robust, though less so than the more expensive alternatives from the likes of Bowens for example, and wouldn’t stand up to careless handling.
The advantage of wireless systems is the obvious lack of trailing wires, causing potential hazards to studio users. More importantly there is no danger of the high trigger voltage from older lighting systems frying your cameras internal circuit boards.
To conclude, the MicroSync Remote Trigger is an inexpensive and reliable system that is sure to improve your studio lifestyle.
