Somerset Enhanced textured paper has been specially buffered with calcium carbonate to prevent any atmospheric pollutants attacking the paper and is designed to stop the paper decaying. Many other papers that we’ve looked at can be used with either pigment or dye inks, however Somerset Enhanced suggest for the best possible results, it’s best to use its papers with pigment-based inks only. The paper’s weight stands at 225gsm, which is lighter than others, but it has to be said that the texture feels superb with plenty of peaks and troughs. Being a thinner rag, extra care was required when we were loading and handling the paper, and if you’re not careful it’s easy to damage the corners.
We downloaded the correct ICC profile for the paper very quickly from the Inveresk website. All the paper profiles are compatible for PC and Mac users and the media settings are clearly listed for each paper. After some careful handling we were ready to run off our first colour test print. Under the loupe the colours were slightly less saturated than the Epson and Fotospeed results and detail in the shadowed areas wasn’t as well defined. Reviewing the mono print revealed neutral tones with a strong sharpness and no signs of bleeding. At £2.38 a sheet it’s well priced and a box of 25 sheets costs around £60.
