The Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 may be a short zoom with an optical stabiliser, but is it for you?

Zoom lenses need not be massive, and for the majority of users, they need not have a long focal length range either. A short zoom has always been a popular choice with DSLR owners and with the crop factor that an APS-C sensor gives, your focal lengths won’t need to be as long as they used to be. The Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6  delivers an equivalent zoom of 75-300mm on 1.5x crop or 80-320mm on a 1.6x crop. It incorporates the Sigma optical stabiliser that does a fantastic job of controlling shake at longer zoom ranges and HSM motor technology provides fast focusing without too much noise. For £300 this is a great little lens that produces some good quality images. Bargain!
