With 16 channels to play with, plus a range of up to 49m indoors and 183m outdoors, most photographers’ needs will be sufficiently catered to with the Seculine Twinlink kit. These channels can be set and checked on the handy LCD screen present on both the trigger and receiver. The receiver base includes a handy magnet for easy attachment to metal studio lights, and for those with non-metal units a metal plate is included in the kit.
The receiver features a hotshoe, mini jack and PC sync for maximum compatibility. The hotshoe is a very useful feature if you intend to use the receiver with a flashgun. Our main dislike of the system is that the trigger can’t be turned off. Instead, it has to be left to ‘go to sleep’, which can be set to a minimum time of 5 minutes. This shouldn’t drain too much power but some will, of course, be lost. The Seculine kit is so easy to use because all controls are quite obvious. In fact they were so easy to use we didn’t have to look at the instructions once. Overall this is a well-built and versatile kit that is reasonably priced for a branded flash trigger system. Extra receivers will set you back £80 each.
VerdictThese Seculine triggers cover all bases, with everything you need for attachment to studio lights in the box. Their main downside is their large aerials, but these can be removed when not in use. The hotshoe attachment for a flashgun isn’t TTL but is ideal for manual flash triggering. All-round usability and the price point make the Seculine a winning trigger kit.
