PocketWizard has recently introduced the miniTT1 trigger and FlexTT5 receiver. This new trigger system is packed with impressive features such as a built-in hotshoe, TTL compatibility, flashgun sync speeds up to an incredible 1/8000sec at up to 8fps, and the receivers can even be used as triggers. However, for TTL and high-speed sync you have to own a compatible DSLR and flashgun. The system is currently Canon dedicated, but Nikon users can look forward to a dedicated version later in the year. Non-Canon flashguns are compatible with the system in manual mode, albeit with reduced features.
PocketWizards have never been cheap, and this new system is no exception. Build quality is generally very good, but the switches on the sides of the units do have a cheap plastic feel. Which is surprising considering the miniTT1 trigger and FlexTT5 receiver cost a whopping £440 together. The quick start guide gets you going and there are some very helpful videos on the PocketWizard website. This trigger set will appeal to specialist photographers who require the unique functions, or those to whom money is no object. Overall they’re very impressive triggers, but you have to be sure you need their functionality before splashing out.

Verdict
These PocketWizards triggers take a clear lead in the flash trigger market in terms of special features. However, the price of these units makes them a specialist purchase, and the features you’re paying for may not be relevant to your style of photography
