Pocket Wizards have been the choice of professionals for years now. This kit comprises two transceiver units (which both double as transmitters and receivers) supplied with PC sync leads, so you can plug them straight into your flashguns without any extra leads or connectors (depending on the flashgun make and model).
The great thing about using the Pocket Wizard Plus II kit is that you don’t have to worry about positioning the flashguns with direct line of sight to the camera. Because they’re nice and small, we managed to ‘hide’ this pair behind objects in the scene, lighting particular areas that would have been impossible otherwise. Not only that, you can also use them to trigger studio flash units and, with the right lead, can use them to fire the camera remotely too. The possibilities are endless.
The controls are about as simple as can be, but we’d recommend reading the instruction manual to get the most out of them. At more than £300, they’re not cheap, but in terms of functionality they certainly give you good value for money and increase your flash versatility a hundredfold.
