The Nodal Ninja NN3 MKII is small and lightweight but it looks belie its power!
At first sight, the Nodal Ninja NN3 MKII doesn’t look as sturdy as some other panoramic heads. Despite its petite frame, however, the aluminium rails will hold consumer D-SLRs with ease. It mounts onto a regular tripod head and features horizontal and vertical adjustments, mountings for portrait or landscape shooting, a knob to securely lock the rail at each point of rotation, four detent rings with a choice of eight different degrees of rotation, and a built-in bubble spirit level.
Owing to its dimensions the NN3 MKII is an ideal portable device – the vertical and horizontal rails detach for convenient storage and setting it up in the field is quick thanks to the two adjustable rail stops. Once you’ve set up the correct position for your lens’s nodal point, you simply fix the rail stops in place so you can quickly set the head up in future. At £170 it’s not cheap, but is a serious bit of kit that offers great value for the enthusiast. It’s a pleasure to set up and use and not too heavy to keep as a permanent companion in your camera bag.
