Available for Nikon and Canon TTL, the Nissin Di622 certainly looks an attractive buy, quoting high power at an affordable price. The Nissin DI622 is quoted as having a GN of 62 based on an ISO of 200. This was borne out by our tests (at ISO 100) giving a respectable GN32. The design is chunky, but the 315g isn’t excessive and aside from the plastic foot the build is reasonable with a good action to the head and no annoying release buttons either.
Despite the attractive price it’s a well-featured model with a wide-angle diffuser panel, fill-in reflector and AF assist beam. There’s wireless shooting too using the camera’s pop-up flash as a master and the DI622 as a slave, so it’s possible with all Nikon or Canon cameras. Controls are basic but easy to use, and as well as TTL there’s a Manual output control with settings from 1/1 to 1/32. At 6secs, the recycle time isn’t too sluggish either.
