The National Geographic Satchel W2160 appears better on the outside than the inside, but just how good is it for protecting your kit? The Walkabout collection is a new series of bags from National Geographic. Opening the bag’s large cover flap and then a secondary zipper gains entry to the main compartment, but instantly, we’re searching for extra padding for our kit. There’s one removable padded insert inside and while this held the D-SLR, it left little room for another lens alongside. Our 70-200mm telephoto ended up standing in the main compartment without any additional protection from bumps or knocks. Though the bag failed to impress inside, it’s better on the outside. A waterproof cover prevents the worst weather reaching your kit and it’s comfortable on the shoulder when fully loaded. The £124 price tag doesn’t make it a cheap buy and with other shoulder bags offering better protection and more space, we’d consider the alternatives first.
