Marumi Hancer Filters are designed to enhance the saturation of their respective colours. They’re available in three colours: red, green and blue – the three colours you come across most in landscape photography.

Marumi Hancer Filters are said to enhance only their own respective colours but we had a very different experience. We used the filters initially with our white balance set to daylight. This produced colour casts over the entire image as expected, so we then created a custom white balance for each filter. The problem with doing this is that it neutralises the filters and makes them behave more like ND filters.
For us the filters didn’t really work. If we wanted a colour cast over the entire image then they did a good job of that. But we're not sure this is something that most photographers want. Isolating and enhancing colours at filter level is extremely difficult, and Marumi Hancer filters unfortunately fail.
If you’re shooting with a film camera and would like to add a colour cast to your shots, these filters will do that. If you shoot digitally however, it’s cheaper and much easier to highlight specific colours or add an all over colour cast in Photoshop or Elements. At between £17 to £51 per filter, these aren’t cheap, either
