The Manfrotto 7321YB M-Y Mini weighs 1.27kg. The centre column can’t be split, so the minimum height you can work from is limited to 35cm. When it’s fully extended it reaches 142cm. At the base of the centre column the rubber end stop is removable, so you can invert it for low-angle or close-up work. The legs can be opened out if you require a wider base to work from but you need to rotate the widening releases rather than press them, which is a bit fiddly.
The built-in 3-way head is simple but worked well and the quick-release plate made it a two-second job to fix the camera to the tripod. There’s no spirit level on this model, so you have to rely on your own judgement to decide if it’s level or not. Out in the field, the leg locks performed well, withstanding heavy pressure and assembling it from its closed 49cm length to the maximum height took 25 secs.
