The Lowepro Vertex 100AW is aimed at the adventure/sports photographer who needs something a little more rugged than the standard rucksack. The zips are similar to the waterproof zips from the DryZone (totally waterproof) range. The Vertex range also has the AW (All Weather) classification, with the bags featuring a raincover that hides away under the bottom of the bag and can be folded out to cover the whole of the bag and protect it from the elements.
There are waist and sternum straps and a total of six adjustment points to get the best fit possible, and the laptop compartment is at the front of the bag rather than the back. Batwings create a sort of hinge to prevent the laptop hitting the floor when you open the front section. There are seven of the Lowepro standard SlipLock slots, in addition to one of the new Glidelock slots for attaching accessories to the outside of the bag.
The bag is extremely comfortable and also small enough to not get in the way while you are running about to get pictures. The extra depth over many rucksacks is a big advantage, allowing you to stow a full-size D-SLR comfortably without the zip straining under the pressure. We fitted in a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens attached to the body of our camera with no problems whatsoever. Although it copes well with stowing photo gear though, it doesn’t really have enough room for accessories such as power packs or wide lens hoods.
At a fraction under £100, the Vertex 100 is placed above many of its Lowepro stablemates, so it’s got tough competition from within let alone from rival brands. The strongest competition is from the similarly priced Lowepro CompuTrekker AW – which you can fit a lot more into. But you don’t get the advantage of the tougher material and waterproof zips. And that’s really what this bag comes down to – if you want a bag that offers extra protection, then the Vertex is it.

I have had this bag for a few months now and i got it when i joined a photogrpahic book club so it only cost me £39.99 i have been so impressed with the bag it is great. before this bag i had a lowepro slingshot 100aw this is ok if you have the smalles DSLR in the world but if you have a normal DSLR like everyone does its rubbish, anyway back to the Vertex yes its great for all range of photogrphers you can carry so much kit in it its unbeliveble and as the other review said its like its bombproof and i look the rain cover and water sealed zips this bag is great and i would recommend it to anyone 5****

This bag has served me well over the past few months. It feels secure and is well made with excellent main zips. Once it's on the shoulders, it feels balanced and capable of protecting all that precious equipment.
It's not the most capacious rucksack but will carry my D200 , Nikon 18-200mm , Sigma 12-24mm , Nikon 85mm and 50mm , as well as batteries , a couple of filters , a snack and several storage cards , the latter having their very own secure compartments.
It also has a really handy waterproof cover that is released from a flap on the underside of the bag. It is attached to the rucksack and just pulls up around the Vertex - simple but still a nice touch.
I would recommend this piece of kit to anybody.
David.
