Lowepro’s trustworthy backpack for many years was the Mini Trekker AW and earlier this year its replacement – the Pro Runner – was announced. Available in four sizes, the Lowepro Pro Runner 300AW is the second largest in the range and there’s either an all-black version or a black and green alternative. At the front of the bag, there’s a huge pocket, with smaller areas inside for general accessories, and opening the main compartment revealed an uncluttered arrangement of internal dividers that were thick and well padded.
The bag had no problems accommodating our test gear and we even had room to spare for a 70-200mm f/4 telephoto and a 50mm prime. There’s a pair of memory card pockets on the inside, too, and another pocket, but we didn’t like the arrangement quite as much as that seen on the older Trekker.
Fully laden, we used the tripod attachment to help transport our set of sticks and across both shoulders it felt comfortable to carry. The padding on the shoulder straps is made from the same material as the back of the bag, and the elasticated sternum strap allowed for chest movement when breathing hard. The zips all worked freely and were matched by a build quality that couldn’t be faulted. For £79, you also get an all-weather cover included.
