We put the Lowepro Flipside 200 camera bag to the test, in search of a lightweight setup. It might look like an oversized codpiece but at least you won’t have to put it down in the mud...

Lugging a heavy camera bag around can really take the edge off a Sunday afternoon stroll. So, in a bid to cut the weight and make the going more comfortable, we tried this new Flipside camera bag from Lowepro.
Looking more like a slimline hiking pack than a camera bag, the Flipside 200 can hold a surprising amount of kit – a mid-range D-SLR with zoom plus two or three extra lenses and other smaller bits of kit (forget about taking bulky professional telephoto zooms, though). Outside there’s a pocket that’ll take a spare battery and a few other little gadgets. On the front there are clasps for a tripod.
This is all good but it’s not until it’s on your back that you’ll see what this little bag is all about. The shoulder, waist and sternum straps are secure and comfy, and movement is unimpeded thanks to its skinny physique. You barely know it’s there. Plus you can access your kit without setting the bag down first. It’ll hold itself at a right-angle to your body, leaving your hands free to change lenses. It may look like an over-sized codpiece, but at least you won’t be wiping mud up your back.
