We assess Lensesforhire by renting a pro-spec lens from the company.

Lensesforhire offers its services on the internet and provides an online booking system. The website is basic in terms of its appearance and is laid out with the various types of Canon and Nikon lenses for hire. There’s an excellent range of optics available for APS-C and full frame D-SLR users and a good range of Sigma lenses too. Clicking on the 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM brought up some technical information about the lens and looking at the online availability calendar revealed it was in high-demand when we wanted to hire it, so we had to wait a couple of weeks before it was free.
    Adding the lens to our shopping cart, there was the choice of nine delivery plans so we chose Mon-Fri before 9am. The total cost for a 7-day hire and one-way delivery came to £82 (returning it cost another £10). If you want to pay for delivery by 9am and collection, the price rises by £19 and we declined the £1250 optional deposit, which is only compulsory if you’re under the age of 18 or live outside the UK. A confirmation email was received when the lens had been dispatched and it arrived before 9am on delivery day, packaged in a cardboard box, surrounded by thick foam with the relevant documents inside. The lens did show signs of previous use, but the front element was clean and a Hoya Pro I UV filter was attached for protection. AF worked well and the lens functioned as expected in our tests. Getting it ready for return was made easy with the delivery bag and address label provided.
