Shoulder bags are ideal for days out, when you don’t fancy lugging a heavy, cumbersome backpack around. They can be slung over the shoulder and offer fast access to your camera. The Kata DC445 is made from high-quality materials and its durable feel will survive the rough and tumble of day-to-day use. The shoulder strap and carry handle are both well padded, offering great comfort for the photographer on the move.

The DC445 is hardly chunky, so it was interesting to see if it could accommodate all our test gear but the main bright yellow interior compartment managed to swallow our kit which consisted of a large D-SLR, standard lens, large sized zoom lens, two additional lenses and a flashgun. Very impressive! The interior dividers are well-padded, offering soft protection against knocks, and they are easy to manoeuvre should you want to redesign the layout for your own kit.  There are three pockets on the inside of the main compartment for extra accessories and the side pockets on the exterior of the bag offer extra storage. If you’re worried about wet weather conditions, it comes with a separate elements cover that can be slipped on and secured over the top of the bag. The advantages of it being separate to the bag are that you can wash it or leave it out to dry; the disadvantage is that it’s easier to misplace in the great outdoors.  

The DC445 is a very comfortable and spacious shoulder bag that’s ideal for many day trips where a large sized backpack seems impractical.  The only slight disadvantage is that it isn’t fitted with press top for instant access but at £50 it represents great value for money and its strong durability will mean this is a shoulder bag for life.
