The Jessops TP327 represents a real budget option, but the cheaper price is apparent in the build quality.
The Jessops TP327 is predominantly plastic and doesn’t seem as robust as many other models, though it’s fairly tall at 167cm. A benefit of the construction is it’s light and it also comes with a carrying handle, so it could appeal to those who need a lightweight model for landscape or travel use.
That said, the Jessops TP327 comes supplied with a three-way head, which isn’t ideal for landscaping and because it’s permanently attached, you don’t have the versatility to swap it for an alternative option. The head does however include both a horizontal and vertical spirit level, as well as having marked intervals every 5 degrees – handy for lining up panoramas.
The legs are restricted by a traditional leg brace, and though it adds extra support, it hampers flexibility. The geared centre column is fixed, so you can’t shoot at ground level. It’s quick to set up and collapse (16secs each way) and while it was fine with a basic D-SLR, extra pressure made it slip.
