For a simple, inexpensive tripod look no further than the Hama Star 62.

Basic tripods are popular with photographers who don’t use one very often. At £40, the Hama Star 62 fits this profile very well, as it’s not the most specified model you will find but it does the job. The tripod reaches a maximum height of 160cm and can be used for movie and still images. The head offers a simple three-way action and it has a quick-release plate.

i bought this tripod from argos. it was their dearest model at 35 quid. i took it back within 4 hours. found that the 3-way head was very flimsy and didnt give adequate support or stability for shots. the whole head moved/bent when i tried to press the shutter button. i doubt if it would be any good for night shots especially. i suppose you get what you pay for.....
