The Giottos MTL9351B has a solid aluminium construction and narrow legs, which make this a fairly light but sturdy tripod.

The Giottos MTL9351B is sturdy enough to carry a heavy maximum load of 5kg. It also boasts a horizontal, reversible and shortened centre column, the ability to angle the legs for low-level shooting at a minimum height of 22cm, three padded leg warmers and a bubble spirit level, too. With the flip-locks released, the legs slide out smoothly for a quick set-up/collapse time of 17secs, but it does have the shortest maximum height of the models tested at just 136cm.
The MTL9351B’s camera mounting system is a bit different from most, with a mechanism that allows you to mount a camera directly onto the plate using the 1/4in screw, or cleverly reverse the screw and use the alternative 3/8in thread to attach a separate head. The main centre column shortens for low-level shooting and a separate column drops in. This is fiddly as you need to unscrew the mounting plate and lock the new column into position, and you could lose one of the columns. Set up time was an average 20secs.

I have the carbon fibre version which is the same in all other respects. It is a superb tripod and does everything I need including use as an ersatz rostrum camera for documents and so forth. You can push the column out a long way horizontally by hanging a weight from the hook on the other end to keep it all upright! A tremendous amount of thought went into the design and build quality is first rate. I also bought the bag which is equally good really quite cheap, well worth the investment to protect the tripod. I have the ball head and the same comments apply to that. I am now coveting the Vetruvian tripod for compact travel; not as versatile but not as lumpy. You need both really!!!

I bought this instead of the Manfrotto 190XPROB, and am not disappointed. It does everything I want this tripod to do, and with a central column that goes horizontal, I couldn't ask for more. It's efficient, ergonomic, cheap (I paid £105 with delivery and a 3 way head!) and brilliant build quality. The only way to improve this would be to include spikes on the end of the legs and not simply rubber feet. This is a wonderful tripod, and cheap doesn't mean nasty: brilliant!

I bought this Tripod at the start of the year to replace an old std tripod that was slipping. I have found it to be great in every situation that I have used it, from the very low down shots to the most awkward of positions. I liked the way the centre column can be set at angles other than 90*.
