Who is it for? For those looking to create their own home studio, this 250W twin-head kit is an ideal purchase and will help get you on your way to capturing professional studio quality results in no time.
Key features: The whole kit comes packed with two 250W flash heads, two spring-cushioned 6.25ft stands, two spill kills, an 80cm 5-in-1 reflector (the same as seen on page 95), a set of radio triggers, and an armoured studio bag – that’s pretty much everything you’ll need to get started. The heads and modifiers connect together using the commonly-adopted Bowens S-type bayonet fitting – popular with numerous manufacturers and opening the door for compatibility with other brands.
Ease of use: Being able to plug directly into the mains with a single power cable is quick and easy, and eliminates the need for additional power packs. All of the switches and dials are clearly labelled on the rear of each head, with the majority of options operated by a simple on/off switch.
Price: At a price of around £330, for the amount of gear you get it’s fantastic value for money – considering you can easily spend upwards of £200 on a single flashgun alone. If you order your kit directly from the company website, you’re even given the option of adding a wide range of extras and upgrades – including a choice of modifiers, switching to luxury air-cushioned stands, and upgrading
to the more powerful 400W heads – allowing you to customise your kit to your own
personal preferences.
Summary: If you’re planning on carting this kit around with you a fair bit, then prepare to spend some time setting it up and packing it away, as it’s not the quickest kit in the world to assemble. We opted for an additional 90cm octagonal softbox with our set, which was of superb build quality, however, we did find that it wasn’t the easiest thing to piece together, requiring a strong arm to get all the rods into position. That said, for anyone looking to establish a quality home studio, this would be a superb starter package, supplying you with everything you need to produce some stunningly-lit photos.
