Billingham moved into the world of camera bags in 1978. Originally a maker of fishing bags, the Presstop 206 still shares that 1970s aesthetic. It has a quality feel, though, and the bottom of the bag is very well protected, including four feet. We’d have liked more padding on the sides though, especially at each end.
If the dimensions seem small, they’re deceptive. All our standard kit fitted in with space to spare for an extra lens, but we’d like to see another couple of dividers supplied. There are also two large pockets at the front, with plenty of space for extra bits and pieces.
How quick and easy the 206 is to use depends on how it’s set up. With the top flap down, secured via the belt-style buckles and the handle in place, it can be very slow and fiddly to get to your gear. However, when the top flap is pulled back, the Presstop offers very fast access. As for the large leather strap, it offers plenty of support, and features a functional non-slip grip.
