Colour photography celebrated its 100th birthday in 2007 (10th June to be precise) and this absorbing tome is a collection of colour images that chart its rise from obscurity to stardom. The earliest pictures, taken using the Lumiere Brothers’ revolutionary autochrome process, are fascinating, showing the social and cultural aspects of early 20th century life in all its slightly out of focus glory. The rest of the book charts its meteoric rise, from autochrome alternatives to the digital revolution. Great pictures, interesting copy, excellent book.
