This SanDisk Extreme card reader comes in a stylish gloss black finish and has been designed for a variety of users with two card slots neatly arranged at the front. The reader supports CF (Type I and II), SD, MS Pro and MS PRO Duo and produces a performance of 20MB/sec (+/- buffer). It’s compatible for both Windows and Mac operating systems and it simply plugs in via the USB 2.0 connectivity cable with no external AC power required. This card reader also comes with data recovery software that can recover photos you thought permanently lost.
The design of this Extreme card reader is superb and it’s extremely useful if you have a compact that uses SD cards and a D-SLR that uses CF as you can plug in both simultaneously. Small blue LEDs light up indicating which CD slot you’re using, and the USB 2.0 cable provided is a good length. We plugged in a SanDisk Extreme III 2.0GB CF card into the reader that was packed with 1GB of RAW files then copied them across onto a desktop. It gave a faultless performance, transferring all the files across successfully in 1minute 10 seconds.
If you’re looking for an even faster card reader it’s well worth checking out the SanDisk Extreme Firewire Reader that offers the highest performance (40MB/sec, +/- buffer) but be aware this has been made for CF card users only.

When I recently purchased the SanDisk Extreme III 4GB SDHC card a SanDisk 'MicroMate' reader (SD/SDHC only) along with the mentioned recovery software (which Works!) were thrown in. Read spec appears identical to the reviewed product, performance is staggering compared to downloading directly from the camera. If you're on the SD standard or just want a spare reader this is a very good 'freebie'.
