Tamron’s 90mm f/2.8 SP Di is a third-party macro lens, available in Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax lens mounts. It can be used with full-frame and APS-C D-SLRs, and with the latter types works out as a 135mm lens on Nikon, Sony or Pentax formats and 144mm on Canon APS-C D-SLRs.

With 10 elements in 9 groups, it’s worth noting there’s no internal AF motor so mounting it on a Nikon D3100, D5100 or similar which doesn’t have an in-built AF motor will limit you to using it manual focus only.
Unlike Tamron’s 60mm f/2 macro, this lens doesn’t have an internal focusing system, so the front element extends by 61mm when shooting at the full 1:1 ratio, but the front element doesn’t rotate, so it’s suitable to use with filters. Instead of a traditional MF/AF switch, Tamron’s push/pull focusing system is featured; pushing the ring forward switches between MF and AF and vice versa. It’s very quick to use and saves you searching for a MF/AF switch. There’s also a focus-limiting switch to set the minimum focus at 44cm, equivalent to a 1:3 reproduction ratio. Without Tamron’s Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) motor, the lens whirrs as it focuses, but there were little or no signs of hunting in our tests. It has a minimum focus distance of 29cm, is comparatively light at 405g.

This lens is pin sharp from 2.8 -f18 it then falls off a little at 22 and 32, most noticable at 1:1 and 1:2 macro work, having said that this is its only draw back, and also makes for a great wee portrait lens too...add to this it's pricetag, makes this choice a no brainer
