The Tokina 10-17mm F/3.5-4.5 AX-T DX features a 180 degree view, with heavy barrelling characteristic of fisheye lenses.

If it’s an extreme field-of-view you’re after then the uncorrected optics of the Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AX-T PRO DX will appeal. It features a 180 degree view, with the heavy barrelling that is a characteristic of fisheye lenses. Tokina claims it is a full-frame lens, but attached to a Nikon D3 we found just the 14-17mm focal range usable so realistically it’s only good for APS-C models where it provides a 15-25.5mm equivalent range on 1.5x bodies. The mottled black finish is classy, as is the build quality with rubberised zoom and focus rings that provide a smooth, sturdy, action. Tokina has used a single SD (Super-Low Dispersion) element to reduce the amount of glass and ensure a compact and lightweight design, which includes a water-repellent coating so the front element is easier to clean. Performance is good, too, with quick and accurate autofocus, although there’s no motor so expect some whirring.
