TAMRON 11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 DI-II LD (IF)

The Tamron 11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 DI-II LD (IF) is a lightweight lens with a large zoom ring.


If you’re interested in travelling light the 375g weight of the Tamron 11-18mm will appeal. Although there’s predominantly a plastic finish, the mottled black coating does make the lens feel more refined. The design includes a large zoom ring at the rear and a decent sized focus ring at the front, both of which provide a smooth action, and the internal focusing system and small front element means you’ll be able to use screw thread filters. The Tamron Di range is only compatible with APS-C sensors, so place it on a Canon D-SLR and the equivalent focal length is 18-29mm, or 16-27mm on Sony or Nikon models. There’s no autofocus motor however and we found it a little noisy, and prone to hunting in low light conditions. What’s more, there’s no AF motor so if you’re planning to pop it on the front of a Nikon D40/D40x/D60 then you’ll be limited to focusing manually.
