The Sigma 50-200mm f/4-5.6 is a recently-released lens available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts.Once unpacked, the first thing that strikes you is the top-notch black matt finish we’re used to seeing on Sigma’s EX range. Build quality is solid too, with a smooth action on both the zoom and focus rings, and this all adds up to a robust lens. The Optical Stabilizer provides an effective four-stops of anti-shake that’s perfect for those without body-mounted stabilisation.
The HSM motor ensures quiet and reasonably fast AF and full performance on cameras without a built-in autofocus motor, but Pentax owners note this lens is only compatible with supported HSM bodies. There’s an Internal Focusing system too, so use of screw-on filters isn’t a problem and the SLD element and Super Multi-Layer Coatings help to reduce flare and minimise fringeing.
