A one-lens solution like this 18-250mm Sigma optic is a very popular option with photographers, because you only need to attach the one lens to your camera and you can enjoy a whole range of shooting options. With a built-in original Sigma optical stabiliser (on Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony mounts), the lens is both versatile and very compact too. It condenses down to just 110mm in length, and weighs in at 630g, which makes it more than reasonable to keep in a compact bag and easy to carry around. This is a DC lens that is therefore designed for the APS-C sensor DSLR models. The inner focusing lens elements prevents the front of the lens from rotating, making the use of a polarising filter a much easier exercise. To reduce flare and ghosting, the lens has special low-dispersion glass that helps it to maintain high quality images across the zoom range. With a £500 price-tag, the lens isn’t that cheap but the quality of the performance and the compact nature of the build make it worth the money. The maximum aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 is a useful offering when the light is low, and the lens has the HSM focusing motor that ensures crisp and efficient focus. Picture quality across the range is very good, and the stabiliser works incredibly well. All in all this is a very impressive lens, but the price may put some people off.
