There are two 10-20mm lenses in the Sigma line-up and the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM is the older of the two.The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM offers a variable maximum aperture of f/4-5.6, so is a little slow. Fitted to a D-SLR with a 1.5x crop factor, you get a lens with a focal length equivalent to 15-30mm on film so it doesn’t have quite as much reach as some, but shouldn’t be too much of an issue as there’s still some cross-over with a standard zoom lens that most people will own.
Build quality is excellent, with Sigma’s EX matt black exterior, while the weight at 470g and refined finish adds to the quality feel. Thanks to the Hypersonic Motor (though it’s not on Sony and Pentax variants), during operation the AF is pretty quiet, though not quite as whisper-silent some other lenses in this range. The zoom ring at the rear of the lens is a good size and offers a nice fluid movement through the range, while the manual focus ring at the front is also a decent size. More importantly, it’s really nicely weighted and offers bags of control.
Weight: 470g
