Though this corrected 10-20mm lens from Sigma comes at a relatively cheap price, it doesn’t strike you as cheap when you use it. It has a real quality feel, enhanced with the matt finish that’s standard with a Sigma EX series lens.

The zoom and manual focus rings are virtually identical in size, with the zoom ring placed at the rear of the lens. There’s also Sigma’s HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) employed for minimal AF noise – this also means it’s fully functional on Nikon D40/40x/60, too. On a D-SLR with a 1.5x focal length multiplication, it has a 35mm equivalent focal length of 15-30mm (16-32mm on a Canon D-SLR) – offering a really wide field-of-view.

Thanks to the HSM motor, focusing is quiet in use. The manual focus ring is also nicely weighted and gives a good level of control.

The Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM costs in the region of £310.

I've been using this lens for some years now and it's become a firm favourite in my kitbag. specifically designed to optimise results for D-SLR cameras with APS-C size sensors, sigma's huge 77mm front end gives you a super wide-angle lens and a very powerful tool for both indoor and landscape photography. The lens incorporates an internal focusing system, eliminating front-end rotation, and Sigma's High Speed Motors (HSM) gives you fast auto-focus speeds - very quietly! It's also capable of full-time manual focus and features a minimum focusing distance of just 24cm at all focal lengths letting you fill your field of view with your subject. The multi-layer lens coating on the Aspherical lenses reduces flare, while providing maximum correction for distortion. Sigma also provides a Petal-type hood. · Focal length 10-20mm · Aperture f/4-5.6 · Angle of view 102.4-63.8° · Filter size/type 77mm · Construction Elements/groups 14 elements in 10 groups · Focusing type Internal HSM · Closest focus 0.24m · Weight 0.470kg

Excellent value for money wide angle lens. I am into landscape photgraphy and hardly ever have this lens off my Canon 400d.

I have only used this len's twice since I bought it, and I am very, very pleased with it. I found it to be very sharp. I am over the moon that I bought it when I did. For the price this len's could be a clasic

I use this lens a lot - deliberately exploiting the distortion effects of getting close to the base or top of an object as well as landscape and 'head-on' wide angle applications. Feels solid, works well (I have one on a Canon 350D - integration is seamless) and a good price compared with manufacturer offerings. It did well on test in most reviews and is a great addition to any camera bag.

A great lens for the money. Have used mine a lot since buying it from e-bay for a good price and only downside is some very slight vignetting but this can be easily removed with photoshop lens correction software. I am using it on my Canon EOS400D and think the overall quality is great for the money. Build quality is great and weight is fairly light. Must use a wide angle filter holder though when using my cokin P filters (as Dax53 pointed out in his review)

Great value for money lens. It does produce distortion at the wider end of the focal length but this can be used to good effect to create perspective. I would have liked sigma to include a depth of field scale on this lens as it would have completed the package. Vignetting appears when using the cokin P filter system but this is not a problem if you use the wide angle holder and set the focal length to 12mm.

Good, solid performing lens and much cheaper than the Canon alternative. One thing to be aware of on a Canon DSLR body (possibly different for Nikon users) is that I directly compared it to Canon's 10-22mm in a shop when I bought it. At 10mm the Canon was a fraction wider and the Sigma flattened the centre of close-up images out a bit more. For my uses it wasn't worth the extra £170, but you might want to check it out if you want a slightly more extreme wide angle effect.

Much like what has already been said, this is a great lens for the price and compliments my Nikon D200 very well. Only problem I find is when using the Cokin Filter System (even with the narrow profile filter holder) you get some vignetting so images often have to be cropped post capture. This is not a problem with the lens, just something to be aware of if you use ND Grads etc.

Just to echo the comments from the other posters, great lens for the price. I have this lens coupled with a Canon 50D and the results are very good. Extended dof very easy to obtain for landscape work. Got mine in December and got it for £295 from "Jessops" using a web discount voucher

If you like landscapses then this is a lens well worth having in your kit. A nice solid lens - well made that feels comfortable to use and delivers really sharp images at f8 and f11 - believe me the investment really is well worth it.......no complaints from me!

I have used this lens for a while now, and found it fantastic, especially with the built in motor that gives me auto focus on my nikon d40x. Really impressed, its so versatile certainly not just a landscape lens, its provided great results for what is a relative cheap price - highly recomend it !!

Had sigmas before, some good, some bad. This one is a good'n, especially where flare is concerned, older sigmas have let me down here but not this one. At the price it is silly not to. Full marks from me.

Excellent lens, an 'almost' walkaround lens if you're not doing landscapes. Not too heavy, nor bulky, it generously frames close-ups and barrel effect is easily minimised using PhotoShop or similar. The higher the megapixles of your camera, the better the crop and enlargement is - the 10-20 doesn't disappoint on my 10mp Canon 400D. All in all, a great lens.
