The Sony 11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 DT doesn’t have Sony’s Super Sonic Wave motor (SSM) so is a tad noisy.
The Sony 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 DT (abbreviation for Digital Technology) is the only ultra wide-angle zoom in the Sony line-up. Weighing in at just 360g the design is both compact and portable, making it a good choice for the Alpha-using landscaper. The build is mainly plastic with rubberized zoom and focus rings, and while the zoom ring offers a smooth action, manual focus feels a little like you’re working against the autofocus motor - you’ll soon get used to it though, and it does enable precise control. Autofocus performance is mixed, there’s internal focusing for enhanced operation and AF speed is quick and accurate, but without Sony’s Super Sonic Wave motor (SSM) it’s also noisy. The 11-18mm focal length covers an equivalent 16-27mm range attached to a Sony D-SLR using the APS-C sensor, and Alpha 900 owners should note this optic isn’t compatible with Sony’s full-frame camera.
Weight: 360g
