The Zuiko Digital 11-22mm f/2.8-3.5 from Olympus may not have a constant maximum aperture, but it’s fast – f/2.8 at 11mm, only dropping to f/3.5 at 22mm. As it’s designed around the FourThirds system with a 2x focal length multiplication, the equivalent 35mm focal length is 22-44mm, so it’s not quite as wide as the others here on test.
The zoom ring at the rear of the lens is rubberised, with a chunky design, while the manual focus ring is a good size, too. The build is solid, which is underlined by the fact that this is splashproof, complementing the E3 D-SLR.
The lens doesn’t feature any kind of motor to reduce autofocus noise (known as Supersonic Wave Drive on Olympus lenses), so expect some low-level noise during focusing. The manual focus ring handles well with a positive action and is nicely weighted.
Expect to pay around £489 for the Olympus Zuiko Digital 11-22mm f/2.8-3.5.
