The Olympus ED 35mm f/3.5 Macro lens is light, uncluttered and very affordable!
Though the focal length of 35mm may seem a tad wide, once it’s on a FourThirds D-SLR with a crop factor of 2x, the Olympus ED 35mm f/3.5 Macro has a film- equivalent focal length of 70mm, giving you an ample working distance.
The lens itself is very squat and compact, with a simple, uncluttered design and a relatively small manual focus ring. Tipping the scales at only 165g, it’s a light lens but, considering it’s also one most affordable lens, the build is better than expected with a good finish.
There’s no autofocus motor to cut down on AF noise, so expect to hear the odd whirr as it focuses. In manual focus, there’s just a little bit too much movement required, but the action is nice and smooth. With the lens focused right down to 1:1, the lens protrudes an extra 0.5in, but you’ll find there is a reproduction ratio guide on the barrel of the lens.
