The Olympus 9-18mm ED F/4-5.6 Zuiko is a portable, budget lens that boasts improved coverage at the wide end. The 9-18mm is positioned in the manufacturer’s standard range of lenses. It has a smaller and significantly lighter design than its 11-22mm sibling, making it a more portable and cheaper option for the price-conscious FourThirds user. As a result the exterior finish is not quite as refined, utilising less rubber on the zoom ring that, along with the focus ring, is slightly smaller on the 9-18mm. With an equivalent 18-36mm focal length this lens does boast improved coverage at the wide end, includes an Extra-Low Dispersion Element (ED) to minimise chromatic aberration (fringeing) and this proved significant in our image quality tests where the 9-18mm just edged out the pricier 11-22mm. It doesn’t have the fast aperture of the f/2.8-3.5 model however, so loses out on a stop of light compared to its dearer sibling.
