The Olympus 11-22mm F/2.8-3.5 Zuiko is ideal for creative depth-of-field shots.
At its widest setting the 11-22mm offers a fast aperture of f/2.8, which is ideal for those creative depth-of-field shots and although the aperture isn’t fixed, when zoomed in it’s still a respectable f/3.5. Taking into account the 2x focal length multiplication on Olympus D-SLRs this lens has an equivalent length of 22-44mm – so it doesn’t have the same ultra-wide coverage as many similar specified lenses. It has a chunky design that incorporates a large rubberised zoom ring at the rear and focus ring at the front that is both smooth and nicely weighted. At 485g it’s not one of the lightest around, but the build quality is solid, a fact underlined by the splashproof coating that places it in the Olympus pro lens range. Despite being a pro lens it doesn’t have the Olympus Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD) for quiet autofocus, although AF performance is good, with the lens locking on quickly and accurately.
