The Nikon 55-200mm F/4-5.6 AF-S DX VR lens boasts top-end features and great performance at an affordable price!

The Nikon 55-200mm F/4-5.6 AF-S DX VR is a perfect second lens for owners of APS-C Nikon cameras like the D60, D3000 or D5000. Build quality is generally good with a large zoom ring that’s quick to use and has a lovely smooth action. There’s an MF/AF switch on the barrel, and although the focus ring is a little on the narrow side it does have ridged teeth, so isn’t difficult to use. The finish is mainly plastic so it is a little lightweight and the plastic mount means you need to be gentle when attaching it to your camera. Out in the field, we found the AF performance to be very impressive. The Silent Wave Motor provides silent autofocus that is quick and locks on to subjects with ease, while Nikon’s Vibration Reduction system delivers blur-free images using shutter speeds up to three stops slower than would normally be possible.
