The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB is designed for those who require a large capacity portable hard drive, combined with relatively small dimensions. The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB comes with a USB2.0 adapter and cable, however if you want to change the interface for a faster version there’s an additional line of adapters and cables available, including USB3.0, eSATA and FireWire800. Seagate’s Dashboard management tool is featured and allows you to take control of back-up schedules and file encryption, as well as viewing any remaining capacity.
The USB2.0 adapter offers a reassuring click when attached and although it has a predominantly plastic finish, it does feel robust and strong.
The drive works interchangeably on PCs and Macs, but if you plan to use the backup software on a Mac, you’ll need to reformat it to the HFS+ format first. Copying 1GB of data onto the GoFlex took 55 seconds compared to 17 seconds when opening a 200MB PSD file into Photoshop.
If you require a practical, portable device with a massive 1TB capacity and you’re restricted to spending no more than £150, the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB is ideal for you. Available in three other capacities (320GB,500GB,750GB), there’s also a Pro version available that features a docking station and a capacity gauge.
