Photoshop CS5

Photoshop CS5 comes bundled with the latest Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-in – version 6 – for converting RAW files.

The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in itself doesn’t feature a library for rating and editing files, but these are available through Adobe Bridge, which is also includedin the CS5 package. ACR is an extremely well-featured package including all the regular exposure adjustments, Tone Curve manipulation, advanced colour controls and a range of localised adjustment tools for working selectively.
In the most up-to-date version, 6.1 (available free from the Adobe website), the addition of geometric distortion corrections and Noise removal sliders has really improved on the already impressive feature set. The layout of controls is intuitive, grouping the sliders into tabs that guide you succinctly through the process from basic to advanced conversions in a logical way. The performance is excellent, too; previews respond quickly as you adjust the sliders and with batch processing, including synchronising adjustments and outputting to a variety of formats, CS5 is a great tool for processing RAW files.
