Photium

Photium offers a website service specially designed for photographers and the 30-day free trial is a great way to get started.

To sign up to the Photium website trial, enter a username, password and valid email address and you’re immediately directed to the administration area. The admin page is neatly broken down, with all the headings and options listed in two columns. There’s a Quick Start guide at the top and inside the Homepage settings there are four layouts for customizing your homepage. The large image option is worth experimenting with if you fancy a slideshow on your homepage and has been brilliantly designed, allowing you to customize the order in seconds. In the template area there are 10 designs to choose from, including Drop Shadow (horizontal menu), which we chose. Template colours can be altered using a colour picker, and there’s the option of changing your font to any one of five styles. Creating a gallery was quick and easy; images can be uploaded individually or in a group using the Java multiple image uploader and gives you four options for sharpening pics prior to them going ‘live’. Other features in the admin area include photo sales, news pages and a guestbook. There’s even a statistics page which breaks down all your website views clearly. Photium’s light package lets you upload 300 images for £80 a year, or £7.27 a month. All packages include a domain name.
