The R2400 is big but the trays fold away nicely so you should be able to get it in position with the minimum of hassle. Epson has spent plenty of time deciding where the line should be drawn in terms of print speed and the R2400 clocks in at 6 minutes 55 seconds for a borderless A3+ size print and 3 minutes 22 seconds for a borderless A4.

This printer produces saturated, high contrast results and is good for punchy landscapes and other high contrast images. Skin tones are good, too. Black & white results are highly glossy, similar in fact to traditional resin-coated paper.

The R2400 has been on the market for a while now, which means that it has experienced a significant number of price drops. It offers good value for money though, considering the overall package you get.

As a black and white photographer, I found this printer to be ideal. Before getting it, I had to use a dedicated printer with special mono inks to get good black and white prints. The R2400 delivers them without colour casts or noticeable metamerism. One thing that did catch me out though, was that the printer driver has special settings for black and white. You ignore them at your peril. I use Hahnemuele PhotoRag paper, and the results out of the box were very good. Add in the correct profile, and they were noticeably better. And that was the problem. Profiled, the results for colour were better, but in black and white, I found the reverse. To get a good black and white print, I needed to turn off the profile, and use the printer driver advanced black and white settings. Without doing this, the print of a step wedge showed maximum black was reached at about 85% black, meaning that the shadows were far too dark. I admit to being lazy; I stopped when I could see a discernible difference all the way up the scale from 0% black to 97% black. For an easy life, I've let the really dark shadows go black...

Exhibition quality results

Produces 1st class results !! but you need to calibrate your screen otherwise you could finish up spending a fortune on ink cartridges. currently very well priced, so its worth upgrading.
