The Dell 2408 may have a slightly plasticy feel to it on the exterior, but makes up for it with a build and image quality that’s very impressive. Best of all it offers great value for money at £400.

The Dell 2408WFP sits at the mid price point and has a mottled plastic finish that is less refined than some brushed aluminium finishes. The build quality is excellent however, and most importantly the height-adjustable stand is a solid metal construction which feels sturdy and has smooth tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments.
The 2408WFP features both DVI and HDMI inputs, boasts four USB ports for connecting other devices, and has front-mounted buttons to control the monitor’s settings via an easy-to-navigate menu.
The matte finish of the screen provides a clear view from all angles; colour accuracy was excellent, and generally colours were strong and punchy but not over saturated. The monitor scored very well, displaying the best levels of contrast in Digital Photo’s October 2008 test.

I read Digital Photo's test of this monitor in the October issue and it was a toss-up as to whether to go for the Dell or the Apple. Immediate availability saw me going for the Dell which I received today, one day after putting in the order.
I was immediately impressed as the monster reared it's head from the box. It looked, and felt, the real deal. I put the thing together in seconds and connected it to my old dog of a PC.
WOW!! Even before making any adjustments to the automatic set-up I was thinking that I was in heaven. At last I could view my shots in a size similar to the way I'd like to print. Yes, the colour is somewhat over-saturated. This will be corrected when I run a Spyder over it. Yes, it is hellish-bright...easily sorted. The sharpness is spot-on.
I'm very, very pleased with this monitor. It's £422 well spent. Thanks DP for drawing it to my atention.
