Capture One 5 Pro

Capture One 5 Pro is a feature-rich Raw converter with a good performance.

The interface on Capture One 5 Pro is well laid out with its controls grouped into easy-to-navigate tabs at the top of the screen. Use the Library function to browse folders, and thumbnails are displayed in the filmstrip. For basic adjustments the Quick Menu features White Balance, Exposure and HDR sliders. Capture One is feature-rich, though, and includes colour correction, lens correction (distortion, fringeing and vignetting) and under the Exposure tab there’s also access to the Tone Curve and, unusually for a RAW converter, there’s Levels, too. What’s more, there’s plenty of resizing control, Noise reduction and sharpening but if you’re after the bells and whistles of slideshows, web, or print options, you’ll need to consider a different package. Performance is good, as the previews refresh quickly which makes adjusting RAW files intuitive, and once you’re happy with your conversion simply click on the Process tab where you can set Output properties including advanced options like adding a watermark. The files finally need processing, which took between 14–30secs depending on the size of the RAW file. Available for Mac and PC.
